Where is The Haven?

The Haven is a harbourside restaurant and bar in Shore Street, Cellardyke KY10 3BD,  in the East Neuk of Fife in Scotland. The name comes from ‘Skinfast Haven’, the original name of Cellardyke harbour.

Why is the community trying to buy The Haven?

The current owner has been considering the future of The Haven for some time.  After carrying out research in the area and beyond, it is considered that there is a proven need for The Haven to become a community owned resource.  The Haven is an important part of the Cellardyke community and its loss would leave a huge gap in the community fabric. 

 

What is The Haven Community BuyINN?

The Haven Community BuyINN was set up by a group of local volunteers who wish to secure the future of The Haven in Cellardyke as a continuing community resource.  They meet regularly to progress key tasks such as community consultation, securing funding and planning future steps.  

 

What is a Community Benefit Society?

A Community Benefit Society (or CBS) is a legal entity which will own the property and the business.  The CBS would have a management team who can make decisions on behalf of the community and line manage the employed staff of the business.  The Haven Community BuyINN is in the process of establishing themselves as a CBS to seek further funding to allow next steps of valuation and business planning to take place. 

 

Does The Haven Community BuyINN have any funding?

 

An initial amount of £2000 seed funding was granted by Plunkett UK, a national charity that supports small communities in establishing community-owned businesses.  This has been used to establish basic administration software, website funding and initial consultation activity.  Once the CBS has been formed, further funding will be sought to progress next steps during 2025. 

 

How will it raise money?

Once the CBS is established, we will seek further funding with the assistance of Plunkett UK from organisations such as Community Shares Scotland and the Scottish Land Fund, who are major providers of capital grants to support community buy outs.  

 

Who will decide what will happen with any money raised?

The Haven Community BuyINN will operate as a normal business with the Steering Group managing and approving any money raised.
